The
Board of Supervisors meet on the second secular day of January to organize for the year.
The Board also meets in adjourned session every other Tuesday during the year for the
purpose of allowing claims, considering matters brought before them, and for the
transaction of other business. Special sessions are scheduled as needed. The Auditor is
Clerk to the Board and schedules appointments for its meetings. All claims must be
itemized and filed with the Auditor by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the meeting for
audit purposes, before being submitted to the Board for approval.
Term,
4 years, bond of not less than $20,000 is required.
The
Board of Supervisors is the legislative body of the county. It is composed of 5 members
who are elected according to Plan 2 of the 1989 Code of Iowa, Chapter 331.206(b). Some of

Approve
bonds of county officials.
Approve
reports of county officials.
Establish and vacate public highways.
Levy
taxes to raise revenues for county purposes.
Allow
claims against the county and order same paid.
Fill
vacancies in county offices, except within its own body.
Act as
the drainage board of trustees of the various drainage districts of the county.
Make
the official canvass of the votes of all elections held within the county.
Allow
or disallow homestead credit claims.
Refund
taxes on property erroneously assessed.
Approve
cigarette, beer and liquor permit applications for establishments in unincorporated
